How Vidya uses AI in math education — transparently.
The AI behind Vidya is a co-pilot for human teachers — never a replacement, never a decision-maker on anything that matters. This charter explains exactly what our AI does, what it never does, and the human-in-the-loop checks behind every meaningful step.
What AI does at Vidya
AI saves teachers time on the routine work so they can spend more time on the irreplaceable work: judgment, care, and human connection.
Drafts personalized homework feedback
Your teacher reviews and edits every AI-drafted feedback message before it's sent. The AI saves them time on routine paragraphs; the teacher provides judgment and care.
Generates and validates practice problems
AI generates problems matching a concept and difficulty. Every problem is validated against a deterministic answer key before a student ever sees it. No student receives a problem whose correct answer the system hasn't verified.
Provides three-level hints (never the answer)
When your child is stuck, the Vidya Coach can offer a nudge (first hint), the method (second hint), or a step-by-step path (third hint). It will never provide the final numeric answer — the student must do the last step.
Suggests which problems to practice next
Based on recent accuracy and concept gaps, the AI suggests the next practice set. This is adaptive but transparent — your child or their teacher can override.
Translates progress data into plain language
Your weekly insight email is drafted by AI from your child's actual metrics, then reviewed by their teacher before it reaches your inbox.
Flags students who may need extra support
If patterns suggest a student is falling behind or losing motivation, the AI surfaces this to their teacher — quietly, never as a public flag — so a human can reach out.
What AI never does at Vidya
These are bright lines. We will not cross them for short-term gain. If we ever consider it, we will update this charter publicly first.
Assesses or grades a student's level
Placement levels, level-completion mastery, and certificates are awarded by deterministic criteria. AI does not decide whether your child has mastered a level.
Communicates difficult news to a parent
If your child is struggling, their teacher tells you directly. We do not let an AI write or send a message about a learning concern.
Replaces a human teacher
Every Vidya student belongs to a cohort with a named, trained, accountable human teacher. AI is the teacher's co-pilot, not a substitute.
Holds long open-ended conversations with children
Vidya's AI is scoped to math practice, hints, and structured feedback. It is not an open chatbot. We do not want children forming dependent relationships with software.
Decides refunds, pricing, or billing actions
Money decisions involve a human operator every time. No AI processes a cancellation, refund, or price change on its own.
Publishes lesson content unreviewed
Every lesson, worked example, and curriculum module is human-authored or human-reviewed before publication. AI may draft; humans approve.
Personalizes prices based on inferred willingness to pay
Two parents looking at our pricing page see the same numbers. We do not use AI to charge different prices to different families.
The safeguards behind every AI feature
Engineering practices that make our AI use trustworthy, not just our intentions.
Deterministic answer keys
Every math problem has a verified correct answer. No large-language model is trusted to provide answers — only hints, explanations, and process feedback.
Hint guardrails
AI hint output is verified against the answer key before it reaches a student. If a hint would contain the final answer, it is blocked and a safe alternative is generated.
Human-in-the-loop on consequential outputs
Homework feedback, parent summaries, refund processing, certificate awards, content publishing — all require a human signoff before reaching a student, parent, or financial account.
PII redaction at every boundary
Student names, parent emails, and account identifiers are removed or hashed before any AI processing. No third-party model sees raw personal data.
Fairness audits every quarter
We review AI-driven recommendations for systematic bias. If our risk-alert algorithm flags one group disproportionately, we investigate before continuing to use it.
Cost ceilings per AI feature
Every AI feature has a daily budget. If it's exceeded, the feature degrades to its non-AI fallback (e.g., fixed-sequence practice) rather than failing or spending unbounded.
Documented fallbacks
Every AI feature has a written fallback path for when it fails. The product never breaks because a model was unavailable.
Data principles
What we collect, what we don't, and what families can do about it. Full details on our Privacy page.
We only collect what teaching requires
Practice attempts, time on problems, hint usage, attendance, homework submissions. That's the list. We do not collect webcam recordings, audio recordings, keystroke patterns, browsing history, or location data beyond timezone.
Parents own the account
Per COPPA, every child account is created and owned by a verified parent. The parent can view all data collected, request export, or delete the account at any time.
We don't sell or share student data
Student data is used to teach your child and improve our pedagogy in aggregate. It is not sold, rented, or shared with advertisers. Anonymized aggregate research findings may be published; individual data never is.
Deletion within 30 days
When a parent requests account deletion, all identifying data is removed within 30 days. Aggregate, anonymized performance data may persist for curriculum improvement.
How we keep this honest
- This charter is versioned and dated. Every material change is announced via email to active families.
- Every quarter we audit AI features against this charter and publish the audit results.
- If you ever encounter Vidya AI doing something this charter says it won't, email trust@vidya.cosmos369.ai — we treat that as a P0 issue.
- Vidya is part of the Cosmos369 platform; broader portfolio standards live in our Privacy and Terms.
